What can i say about Sufism?
How can i contain an ocean in a drop?
My heart is overflowing with awe –
the sun melting into the ocean.

“Sufism is not rituals and forms and is not bodies of knowledge, not doctrines, not ideas, not theories. But it is impeccable manner, the manner of the lover in the presence of the Beloved.”

Abu’l-Hasan Al-Nuri

The Sufi Ruhaniat International (SRI) is composed of sincere mureeds (formally initiated students) who tread the path of initiation and discipleship, seeking the truth of the inner life through personal practice and direct experience—just as the disciples of many other Illuminated Souls, known and unknown, have done through the ages.

Murshid Samuel L. Lewis (1896–1971) was a mystic schooled in both Zen and Sufism, recognised as a teacher in both traditions, who felt that spirituality should be a matter of living experience, not division and conflict.

His spiritual successor, Murshid Moineddin Jablonski (1942–2001) believed that spirituality was not fully realised until fully embodied, with all elements of the personality – light and dark – included in a life of joy and compassion.

Both lived and taught in the tradition of Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan (1882–1927), the bringer of the Sufi Message to the western world. On this way we recognise equally all the different spiritual traditions of the world and honour them as an expression of the Divine.

Here is one attempt to put into words what is sufism by Hazrat Inayat Khan’s grandson, Pir Zia Khan, the current Spiritual Head of the Inayatiyya Order.
